Keno was first played in 200 BC by the Chinese army commander, Cheung Leung who used keno as a way to finance his declining forces. The metropolis of Cheung was at war, and after a bit of time seemed to be facing country wide shortage of food with the drastic drop in supplies. Cheung Leung needed to develop a rapid response for the economic disaster and to acquire money for his forces. He, as it follows designed the game we now know as keno and it was a fantastic success.

Keno was referred to as the White Pigeon Game, since the winning numbers were broadcast by pigeons from larger municipalities to the tinier villages. The lottery ‘Keno’ was imported to the United States in the 19th century by Chinese migrants who came to the US to work. In those times, Keno used 120 numbers.

Today, Keno is generally wagered on with 80 numbers in almost all of American based casinos along with web casinos. Keno is commonly enjoyed today because of the relaxed nature of wagering the game and the simple fact that there are little skills required to enjoy Keno. Regardless of the reality that the odds of coming away with a win are terrible, there is always the possibility that you could win quite large with very little gaming investment.

The casinos renamed the ‘Chinese lotto’ to ‘horse race keno’ employing the idea that the numbers are horses and you are looking for your horses to place. When a law passed that taxed off track wagering, Nevada casinos quickly adjusted the name to ‘Keno’.
